The majority of us love reading and catching up with what’s going on in the world, right? The only downside is we’re often bombarded with negativity in the media. Even if you click on one positive story, you’ll often find it surrounded by ‘sidebars of shame’ and drawn into all those negative vibes. Even some magazines can seem like they’re full of cheerful stories, only to contradict their body-posi stance by calling out celebs’ figures on the next page. We’re so used to it now, it’s become almost ingrained in our brains, and what we come to expect from the media. However, there are a small group of publications hoping to change all that. Here are the positive publications you really need in your life.
We absolutely adore The Happy News by Emily Coxhead. Although it’s only published quarterly, the feel-good stories about everyday heroes and inspirational people will keep you going with 32 pages of goodness. They’ve covered some incredible people and touched on some really important themes, such as empathy and unity. There’s no sad or negative news to be found with The Happy Newspaper which is why we love it. You can buy a subscription for you or a friend (or both) on their site.
Even the name of this magazine makes us feel calmer and more positive. Breathe magazine focuses on everything to do with mindfulness and living a happier, healthier life. It’s split into five sections: wellbeing, living, mindfulness, creativity and escape. The whole purpose of Breathe is to ensure you make more time for yourself and you’ll feel inspired the moment you open it up. Oh, and how could we forget the stunning illustrations on the covers? Simply beautiful.
Moving away from physical publications, we’re regular readers of the Good News Network ourselves. Here you’ll find positive news stories, normally about people who have done wonderful things. Whether you want to feel inspired or just need to look at cute animals being friends with other cute animals, this is the site for you. They also have their own book, if you want more positive vibes outside of the online world!
That’s The PositiviTEA (that’s us)
Of course, we couldn’t not include ourselves on this list (blushes). Although we’re fairly new compared to some of these established publications, we have very similar aims. Alongside our self-care articles, like this one, we also cover Everyday Heroes, good news about our beautiful planet, and your daily dose of entertainment news (that’s the tea). Going ad-free also means we can control what you see in the sidebars or within articles – no weight loss ads here, thanks! If you love what we do, we’d love to see you over on our Facebook page for updates and positive vibes only.
The next time you need your daily dose of news or fancy getting stuck into a magazine, consider one of these positive publications. Together, we can all restore the balance in the media.
